Holiday Whole Body Detox
TO STAY REJUVENATED
Now is the season that many of us look forwards to enjoying. I love the holidays. On the east coast of the United States, the weather gets cold and sunlight is limited. Our calendars are packed with holiday celebrations. If your home is holiday central, you already task list as a long as your arm. How do we stay healthy and function at our maximum potential in spite of all of those variables? The key is to reduce toxins and stressors that hamper your immune system and thwart detoxification pathways in our bodies.
A whole body detox uses whole foods, lots of fruits and vegetables, and mind body exercise to support your liver, colon, hormonal health, immune system your brain and smile. A whole body detox can be tailored to your specific health issues and wellness goals. Herbal supplements are sometimes added to enhance the detoxification experience. While following a whole body detox protocol, you give yourself a break from processed foods and sugar while you learn to use plant based foods that facilitate detoxification.
During the holidays a simple detox plan can really make a difference and help rejuvenate you mind body and smile. The outcomes you enjoy can include weight loss and or weight maintenance, improved energy.
Healthy eating can be a real challenge.
No one has time to create gourmet meals during the holiday season. Start flushing out those toxins with an inflammation fighting soups/stews. Whole and healthy soups /stews may just be the ticket. They are quick to make and can be stored in your fridge for quick access. Just add a salad, and you are set.

Sleep is essential to a health
Sleep is essential to a healthy liver and for adequate detoxification. Adding a bit of meditation or relaxation stretching and aromatherapy will enhance your detox journey.
Detoxifying snacks
Your healthy eating habits can take a hit when you get busy during the holidays. We end up eating out more than usual and reaching for high fat foods that ultimately slow us down.
Orange slices, grapes, apples and bananas are a great on the go snacks.
Apples with almond butter
Apples are full of phytochemicals and soluble fiber that aid digestion and detox the body. Pair them with creamy almond butter for a dose of healthy fats to stabilize your blood sugar.
The cinnamon topping adds additional anti-inflammatory agents to your snack. You may not know it but cinnamon is very healing for the smile as well.
Feed your smile also
The balance of good and bacteria in the mouth is closely connected to a buildup of inflammation within the body. So a true whole body detox also incorporates foods and tools that help cleanse the mouth and nurture your smile. Dr. Stukes recommends a coconut oil pulling regimen.
Studies show oil pulling is a s effective as chlorohexidine mouth rinses but it does not destroy your good bacteria. The good bacteria in your mouth release nitrates that play an important role in insulin regulation. That is just one of the benefits of oil pulling.
Support
A whole body detox program should provide support for you to make your journey easy and fruitful.

Meet Dr. Susan Stukes
I am the leader of the Seva team. I have spent more than 25 years practicing dentistry and promoting the whole health approach to wellness. In addition to having a Doctorate degree in Dental Medicine, I’m certified through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition as a health coach and have been selected by the prestigious institute for Whole Health to receive certification in whole health education. Through the whole health institute I have trained under health visionaries such as Dr. Anne Louise Gittleman PHD, CNS, Dr. Barry Sears PHD, and Dr. Bernie Siegel MD, who are physicians, authors, and motivational speakers on the Whole Health and Wellness concept.
I believe in the whole health approach, and that all the systems in the body are interconnected. What you eat has a huge emphasis on how you look and feel. Moreover, the foods you eat can increase or decrease the inflammation in your body.
The focus of my work is centered on making you smile inside and out by introducing anti-inflammatory foods, restorative cleansing and identifying and overcoming your individual triggers and challenges that have made change in the past difficult for you. I do not believe in rigid or restrictive eating regimens. I believe in taking small steps that lead to big change.
I have transformed my life through making healthy living changes and so can you.
